Welcome to the Metzger Art Lit Program
VISION: Our vision is the provide every elementary student with the opportunity to create and appreciate art. Just like math and science, Art Literacy is a discipline in which skills are built upon each year and contributes to both knowledge and critical thinking abilities that are essential to preparation for post-high school endeavors.
MISSION: Our mission is the have a district-led and parent volunteer program that exposes students to a wide array of artists, cultures, and art mediums.
FUNDING: Funding for our program is currently and generously provided by our school Parent Support Organization as well as other donors.
2020-2021 School Year Update:
This year the program will be online. Videos will be created, shared with teachers, and presented to students through the app Canvas. Students have received supplemental supplies in their supply bags from Metzger. The at home supply list is fairly simple; please have crayons, markers, water color set, and a pencil. All of these supplies can be purchased from area stores. Additionally, all students will have received an Art Lit resource/sketchbook in their supply bags. This book has plenty of space to sketch and work on the projects from this year. Unfortunately, there aren't opportunities for volunteers to present in the classroom at this time. We encourage parents enjoy working on the projects alongside their children. Please reach out if you have any questions to Jessica Riehl, Metzger Art Literacy Coordinator, at metzger.art.lit@gmail.com
For Volunteers:
Throughout the year the District offices offer up classes for our parent teachers that show new art techniques and have fun workshops. If you need to learn or just want a night out, you should take advantage of this free time of learning and creativity!
NOTE: District workshops are FREE and open to all volunteers: coordinators and presenters.
All Workshops are held at the TTSD District Office – 6960 SW Sandburg St., Tigard, Conference Room C (downstairs)
