Welcome to the Metzger Art Lit Program

VISION: Our vision is the provide every elementary student with the opportunity to create and appreciate art. Just like math and science, Art Literacy is a discipline in which skills are built upon each year and contributes to both knowledge and critical thinking abilities that are essential to preparation for post-high school endeavors.

MISSION: Our mission is the have a district-led and parent volunteer program that exposes students to a wide array of artists, cultures, and art mediums. Funding for our program is currently and generously provided by our school PSO as well as other donors.

Art Lit Volunteers,

Thank you so much for signing up to volunteer at Metzger this year.
ALL VOLUNTEERS MUST FILL THIS SCREENING FORM OUT before I can confirm you in a class: click here.

As a volunteer, you will be presenting a different artist each month and facilitating an art project that corresponds to that artist 6 to 8 times a year. I have an artist scheduled for each month, starting with October and going through May. Each month there will be two meetings to choose from to learn about that month's artist. There is a meeting at the school usually on Mondays at 2:30 and one at my house, usually on Monday evening at 7pm. These meetings will last no more than one hour in length and you will be able to learn a little about the artist as well as experience the art project. Kids are welcome to either meeting, but can be a bit distracting. You will be responsible for coordinating a time with the classroom teacher(s) and filling it out on the master calendar found here on this web page. I strongly suggest that you fill out the calendar for the entire year once you have a time and day that works best with you and the teacher(s). Certain days and times fill up quickly.

For Volunteers:

Throughout the year the District offices offer up classes for our parent teachers that show new art techniques and have fun workshops. If you need to learn or just want a night out, you should take advantage of this free time of learning and creativity!

NOTE: District workshops are FREE and open to all volunteers: coordinators and presenters.

All Workshops are held at the TTSD District Office – 6960 SW Sandburg St., Tigard, Conference Room C (downstairs)
